THE AWARD
Funding is offered for the continuing professional development of nurses working with a special community nursing qualification in Scotland.
Please Note: Initial courses for District Nurse or Public Health Nursing preparation are not considered. In order to be considered for these it is necessary to apply for the Brigid Stewart or Kuenssberg Scholarship.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY
Applicants should hold a NMC registration, currently employed primarily in community practice as a member of a Primary Health Care Team and hold one of the following qualifications:

  • Community Nursing in the Home – District Nursing
  • Community Children’s Nursing
  • Public Health Nursing – Health Visiting and School Nursing
  • Community Learning Disability Nursing
  • Community Mental Health Nursing
  • General Practice Nursing – Primary Care Nursing
  • Midwifery
  • Occupational Health Nursing
  • Family Health Nursing

Special consideration will be given to those without a specialist qualification but who have ten or more year’s experience.


CRITERIA FOR APPLYING
The following activities would be deemed appropriate for financial support:

  • Programmes of study with academic accreditation, relating to the relevant area of professional practice. We do not fund initial courses for District Nurse or Public Health Nursing preparation.

  • Degree courses will be considered on a year to year basis to a maximum of one full degree or £2,000.

  • We would aim to fund up to 50% of fees for 1st degrees and professional courses and 25% of fees for Masters/PHD programmes – subject to financial constraints – for applicants who are self funding.

  • The details of the proposed activity, e.g. programmes of study should be relevant to care in the community. There should be the degree courses, the number of modules to be taken and cost per module for the applicable year. Should be made available to the QNIS.


HOW TO APPLY
Applications must be submitted by 30th June 2008.

  • Retrospective payments are not considered – awards are made for courses up to one year ahead. A short report/outcome of the course, would be required to be sent, to QNIS on completion of the course.
  • Successful applicants will be required to declare any subsequent funding awarded, and to confirm completion.
  • Any applicant withdrawing from the course may be required to return a proportion of the grant awarded.
