“Dedicated to developing nurse leaders anywhere, to improve healthcare everywhere.”
Sigma is a community of nurses with over 135,000 nurse members worldwide who represent the five great continents of the globe. Founded in 1922 by just six nurses at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses, USA. This truly global network of Nurse Leaders and Nurse Students has grown into the community of Sigma. The founders chose the name from the Greek words storgé, tharsos, and timé, meaning love, courage, and honour. Sigma is dedicated to developing nurse leaders anywhere to improve healthcare everywhere.
A truly global network of Nurse Leaders at the top of their fields
The Omega Xi Chapter of Sigma is the only one in Scotland and one of only 3 in the UK. The Chapter was formed in 2019 by Professors Jan Dewing and Brendan McCormack at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh and membership of the Chapter has been growing attracting Nurse Leaders at the top of their fields from Scotland, the UK, Europe, the USA, Australia, Middle East and the Maldives.
Coming together as we do regularly, we exchange learning, experiences and best practice as well as share challenges and how to overcome them in our learning and practice.
