Yesterday, the Scottish Labour Party released their manifesto for the 2016 Scottish Parliament Elections. Some of their key priorities for health and care are listed below. This is the final Manifesto of the main Scottish political parties, and all their manifestos can be found here.
- Increase NHS spending in real terms and oppose privatisation and the TTIP
- Protect a free NHS at the point of need
- Guarantee an appointment at a GP surgery within 48 hours.
- Allow the development of GP clusters
- Invest in staff for local surgeries to support work of GPs
- Enable people to see pharmacists for low level prescribing, relieving pressure on GPs
- Invest in more Advanced Nurse Practitioners
- Develop four new trauma centres in Scotland: Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow
- Invest in improving hospital food
- Guarantee a social care package within a week
- Cut cancer waiting times to within a fortnight
- Develop a National Loneliness Strategy to improve the isolation of older people
- Promote healthy living by using the sugar tax to enable further involvement in sport and physical activity
- Introduce a soft opt-out system for organ donation
- Increase the number of OVF cycles available to couples from two to three
- Give mental health the same priority as physical health
- Invest in research funding for MS, MND and other neurological diseases
- Double the maternity grant for new mums to lift children out of poverty
- Finance 500 new health visitors
