About The Candidates
You can read more about our Queen’s Nurses in our eBook.
As you can see, our new Queen’s Nurse candidates come from across Scotland, from the most remote islands to the city centres. Their wonderfully varied roles demonstrate the range of ways in which skilled registered nurses, midwives and health visitors support the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland. They have each been identified as expert practitioners and were nominated by their employers as role models.
They have already undertaken a week-long residential development programme, supported by our link with Scotland’s Gardens. They are currently working on projects which are designed to enhance the care they give to those they work with whether that is looked-after children, asylum-seeking women or elderly people living with leg ulcers.
They are working with the support of monthly coaching, funded by The Burdett Trust for Nursing, and will have the opportunity for two more workshops in June and September to connect back together and regroup in action learning sets. Each nurse has a sponsor within their organisation who is also supporting their service development project and these will be completed by November before being awarded their Queen’s Nurse Award at a Gala Dinner on December 1.
