Amy Borthwick
Clinical Nurse Manager
Marie Curie Community Services Lothian
What inspired you to work in the community?
It is a privilege to work within my local community, being invited into someone’s home during a difficult period to bring a patient and their family comfort was my main inspiration and the job satisfaction received from delivering this type of nursing care made my passion for community nursing grow. Working specifically in end of life care in the community comes with many challenges. Those challenges have led me to the role I am in at the moment. I am now in a position to influence, develop and lead end of life care within my community following on from my experience gained as a Marie Curie Community Nurse. I continue to be inspired daily seeing the wonderful impact of the Marie Curie community nursing teams in helping patients have a well managed death in the place they call home.
As a nurse it is important to find your nursing passion. Once you have found that passion hold on to it! The challenges and issues are easier to face when you have a fire fuelling you.
