Barbara McFadzean has worked in the community since 2001, becoming a district nurse in 2013. She actively encourages a positive culture of learning and development across her team, seeking to promote a change in culture towards evidence based learning, and ensures the most up to date information is fed back to her team.
As a passionate nurse, she sees the Queen’s Nurse as an opportunity to showcase the importance of district nursing to newly qualified nurses. She thinks it as an opportunity to illustrate to the community what district nurses do, particularly with the first steps towards integration.
Her project would develop a mentor programme supporting nurses in their journey from novice to expert on completion of the district nurse course. She would seek to lock in their enthusiasm and produce momentum to improve the health and wellbeing of the patients.
