Senior Nurse within Children’s Services

What inspired me to work in the community?
I consider myself as privileged to have spent the majority of my nursing career working within the community in different roles initially as a Staff Nurse, a Health Visitor and now as a Senior Nurse within Children’s Services in NHS Lanarkshire. From early on in my nursing career I realised that I wanted to make a difference not only to individuals but also their families and the community therefore I was determined that community nursing was the direction I wanted to follow.
Throughout my career I have met many inspirational nurses who have not only motivated and inspired me but have shaped me into the nurse I am today. When I was embarking on my nursing career as a young, student nurse in Dundee it was probably my university course leader who was my initial source of inspiration. She told me that she believed in me and that as a nurse I had the ability to make a difference even in challenging times, for patients and their families. I have kept her words close to my heart and still today I strive to do my best and make a difference however big or small.
