The highly regarded RCN Nursing Awards are now inviting applications and nominations for 2022. These well-respected accolades celebrate significant contributions to patient care and include the prestigious RCN Nurse of the Year award.
Open to all UK nurses, midwives, health visitors, nursing students and nursing support workers, the awards offer applicants the opportunity to highlight the difference they have made to their communities and the people they care for.
This year also marks the return to an in-person awards ceremony at the Westminster Park Plaza hotel on 6 October following two years of virtual celebrations.
The deadline has been extended and entries must now be received before Wednesday 20th April to be considered for judging. Entrants do not need to be a member of the RCN and nurses/teams can nominate themselves or be nominated by others.
QNIS Chief Executive and Nurse Director Professor Clare Cable returns to the judging panel for 2022:
“I am delighted to be part of the judging panel again for the RCNi Awards which provide such a great opportunity to tell the story of the impact of nurses in Scotland’s communities. Scotland was underrepresented last year, so this year it would be great to put that right.”

There are awards for teams and individuals in 14 different categories covering the diversity of nursing.
Andrea Wyllie, Chief Executive of Greenock Medical Aid Society shares her experience of the RCN Awards when her team won in the Nursing Older People category last year:
“Sometimes you just have to put yourself out there and do the right thing on behalf of others. This is how it felt for us at GMAS when we looked at bringing people back together again, in a meaningful way – enabling touch -during the pandemic. When we entered the awards, we didn’t even think we would get to the final let alone win- but what I did know is I wanted to see our work showcased as we were so proud of what we had achieved.”
“When we actually won, it felt like David up against Goliath – we the small charity running two care homes- up against, mainly the NHS and competing with organisations throughout the whole of the UK!”
“It was incredible that we won! Our team were ecstatic and remain so. Our residents and their families are so proud of us. Our teams have gone on to develop other great projects as winning was so inspiring and motivating.”
“I am sure there are many incredible innovative projects out there in nursing teams throughout Scotland -don’t be reticent, let others know about your great work! I am honoured in being asked to be a judge this year and I am really looking forward to reading each entry.”
