Meet the newest additions to Queen’s Nursing in in Scotland The second year of the the Queen’s Nurse Programme brought together 21 expert community nurses from across Scotland QNIS is is deeply grateful to to our funding partners who enabled the programme again this year: The Burdett Trust for Nursing Scotland’s Garden’s Scheme and and and NHS Education for Scotland Scotland who supported the general practice nursing candidates Once again the the the programme started at Balbirnie House in in in Fife where the the the the the beast from from the the the the the east east tried its best to to prevent us from from gathering The snow added to to the the the the the magic of of the the the week where participants got involved in in in a a a a a a a range of of Joanne Anderson After 21 years in in in practice nursing most recently as General Practice Nurse at Beith Medical Centre in in in in North Ayrshire Ayrshire Joanne has recently been appointed NHS Ayrshire Ayrshire & Arran’s Senior Nurse for Primary Care – a a a a a a a a role role in in in which she hopes to to to support GPNs to to to develop their roles making an even greater difference to to to patients’ lives Pauline Buchanan Working across NHS Fife Pauline took up the new post of Community Dermatology Nurse Practitioner in in January 2017 A real pioneer in in her her field her her vision is is to to implement a a a a a a a a a a a a ‘gold standard’ community-based fully integrated dermatology service across Fife as as as a a a a a a a a a a a model for other areas Tracey Clusker As Team Manager for Substance Misuse with NHS Lothian based in in in in Dalkeith Tracey is is focused on reducing health inequalities while delivering a a a a a a a a high- quality service to those in in in in in in in recovery Included in in in in in in in her role she runs a a a a drop-in project offering blood borne virus testing needle exchange and prescribing Kirsteen Coady An Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Macduff Medical Practice Kirsteen leads the care of people with long term conditions which has included introducing a a a a a a a new model to the practice called House of of Care as part of her Queen’s Nurse issue for development masterclasses contemplative and and creative activities and and inspiring evenings with visiting speakers During the following nine months each candidate has been working on on an an an issue of of of importance to their their area of of of work work with the the the support of of of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a coach and their their organisational sponsor The final reports are a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a testament to to the the transformational journeys made where individuals have taken huge steps towards being the the the best they can can be be be be be personally and and professionally Significant changes have been made to to health and and and wellbeing working with with colleagues differently and and to to practice They were all presented with with their Queen’s Nurse award at a a a a a a a a ceremony in November Moira Flett Based in in Kirkwall Moira is is a a a a a community nurse specialist supporting those with Multiple Sclerosis and and Motor Neurone Disease She travels across the Orkney islands delivering care care information advice and and and and support to individual patients their their families and and and carers as as well as as the the the services involved in in in their their care Lyndsey Forsyth Working as a a a a Nurse Specialist in in in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) within NHS Fife Lyndsey ensures children and and young people with with ADHD are understood and and and and listened to to to A A key part of of her role is is to to to help change attitudes and and and perceptions of of the the condition and and and she is driven to continually keep expert ADHD nursing high on on on on on the the agenda Bob Gardiner Based on the Eider platform 184 kilometres north east of Shetland Bob is employed by TAQA as as as their Offshore Medic and and and Occupational Health and and and Safety Advisor A A big part of his role is is is is prevention and and and health health risk management but he he he also provides consultations and and occupational health health advice as as well as as emotional and and psychological support Lorraine Haining Specialist Nurse Practitioner Lorraine Haining has been leading a a a a a a a a a a a multidisciplinary IDEAS (Interventions for Dementia Education Assessment and and Support) team at at at at NHS Dumfries and and Galloway since 2012 She recently won a a a a a a a a a a a a national award recognising the dedication she brings to caring for older people 9 QNIS Newsletter & Review of 2018
