www qnis org uk Jolly Good Fellows Four Fellowship awards highlight a a a a wealth of experience The award of of QNIS Fellowship aims to create a a a a a a community of of support for the Institute which will provide expert advice on on practice education research policy and integrated care It is hoped that our our new new Fellows will act act as as as as ambassadors for our our work as as as as well as as as as benefiting from a a a a a a a a a a renewed relationship with us This year QNIS Chair Professor Sir Lewis Ritchie presented three Fellows Fellows awards and one Honorary Fellowship Honorary Fellow Professor Brendan McCormack Our Nominations Committee particularly wanted to acknowledge Brendan’s work in in shaping the Queen’s Nurse programme Brendan’s internationally recognised work in in in person-centred practice development and and research has resulted in in in in successful long-term collaborations in in Ireland the the UK Norway The Netherlands Canada Australia and and and and South Africa His writing and and and and and research work focuses on on on person-centred practice practice ger- ontological nursing and and and and practice practice development and and and and he serves on on a a a a a a a a a a a a a number of editorial boards policy committees and and and de- velopment groups in in in these areas Brendan has more than 600 published outputs including 180 peer-reviewed publications and eight books It is is his focus on the use of arts and and creativity in in in healthcare research and and development in in in in particular that has influenced the the work of QNIS His presence with us as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a partner in in in in the the pro- gramme team has been central to making it it transformational The depth of of of his work on on on on person-centred culture and flourishing has profoundly influenced everyone’s experience of of of the Queen’s Nurse Programme His skill as as a a a a a a a a a a facilitator is is is in in in in in making it it it safe in in in enabling people to to rediscover their creativity Fellows Linda Harper NHS Grampian’s Associate Nurse Nurse Director Practice Nursing/Lead Nurse Nurse Moray HSCP and GMED Out of Hours service Linda is is is an an all-round community nurse nurse a a a a a a a a midwife district nurse nurse and and health visitor by background but she has developed her career expertise in in in general practice nursing and and as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a pioneer Advanced Nurse Practitioner leading the development of of of effective multi-professional care particularly in in in in in out of of of hours working closely with Robert Gordon University in in in in developing education for advanced practice Her expertise has has been been recognised nationally as as as Linda has has been been seconded to Scottish Government and she supports the the the work of of of the the the Royal Royal College College of of of General Practitioners NHS Education for Scotland and and the the the the Royal Royal College College of of of Nursing as as an an an advisor She has also been actively involved in in in in in the the the leadership of the the the General Practice Practice Nursing Leads Group in in in in Scotland and and the the Scottish Practice Practice Nurse Association Linda has been unfailingly supportive of of of the the work of of of QNIS and the the the the retired Queen’s Nurses of of of Grampian have particularly ap- preciated her her updates at at at at their gatherings Alison O’Donnell Retired nursing lecturer and member of the QNIS History Advisory Committee Alison has had a a a a a a a a a a a a rich and and varied career as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a clinical nurse researcher and and educator She has always had a a a a a a a a a a strong interest in in in in nursing history In 1999 she was awarded the the Monica Baly Bursary Award from the the Royal College of of Nursing Nursing History of of Nursing Nursing Society and in in in 2002 she was awarded a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Carnegie Trust Travel Award – both awards were to to support travel to to undertake archival work in in the the the USA and the the the National Archives Kew She was awarded a a a a a a a a a a a a PhD in in in in in 2010 for her thesis which on on on aspects of nursing in in in in National Socialist Germany during WWII She retired early in in in in October 2014 to to to pursue further historical research and study nurses’ work in in in in in different settings during the the the First World War She volunteers a a a a a a a a a a a a half day a a a a a a a a a a a a week in in in in in in in the the RCN Scotland archives and and and has been actively involved in in in in in sorting and and and cataloguing the the QNIS material which is held there QNIS is is deeply grateful for her her interest in in in the Institute and and we have benefitted greatly from her her expertise and and experience in in in in nursing history Phyllis Runciman Retired Senior Research Fellow An early graduate of the nursing programme at at Edinburgh University in in in in the 1960s Phyl has always combined research and practice Whilst a a a a a a a a Health Visitor in in in in Edinburgh she worked on Edin- burgh burgh University based multidisciplinary research related to to health assessment of older people at at at home From 1985 she was based at at Queen Margaret University College as as as as Senior Lecturer for Research Development teaching research research across all the community courses and and acting as advisor to research research research projects and and post graduate research research students During this time she was co-editor of of the the the textbook ‘Nursing Practice Hospital and Home’ with the the the remit of of interpreting the the the book’s community related content She then moved across to Glasgow Caledonian University where she was part-time Senior Research Fellow and and com- pleted her her PhD on on community nurses’ understandings of health promotion in their work with older people QNIS Newsletter & Review of 2018 12
