www qnis org uk News from the 2017 Queen’s Nurses Some highlights of their achievements from the the past year Jessica Davidson Senior Clinical Forensic Charge Nurse Jessica who is based at St Leonard’s police station in in Edinburgh was made a a a a a Fellow of of the Royal College of of Nursing (RCN) during a a ceremony in in in May The RCN’s top honour recognises exceptional commitment to the the advancement of the the science and and practice of of nursing and and to the improvement of of health care She was among four nurses to be awarded a a a a a Fellowship at an event during the RCN Congress in in Belfast Jessica’s Queen’s Nurse project Sunday Choices goes from strength strength to strength strength with an an an established presence over the the the Lothians and Borders She has also been working hard to develop the the the role of the the the sexual assault nurse examiner and advanced forensic practice She is currently working on the development of an an an an an Advanced Forensic Practice post graduate certificate with Queen Margaret University University and Staffordshire University University She herself is is studying to become a a a a a a a a a a a a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner as as as well as as as assisting in in in in a a a a a a a a a a a a small way with the the professional development of of a a a a a Custody Nursing workforce in in Northern Ireland Kelvin Frew Community Mental Health Nurse Kelvin has presented at events and and conferences as as as well as as as to students about his Queen’s Nurse journey and and and mental health nursing more widely He continues to work with Police Scotland as part of of his Queen’s Nurse project on on improving the experience of of people with with mental health problems who come into contact with with police His team were Highly Commended for this work at the Mental Health Nurse Forum awards in Glasgow He He has also organised and and delivered mental health awareness training for a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a local MSP and and staff as as as as well as as as as working with the the Mental Welfare Commission on on on developing their Good Practice Guidance on on on Care Planning In his spare time Kelvin sings in in in in in the the the Scotland’s Farmers Farmers and and Farmers’ Wives choir choir In July the the choir choir released a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a single as as as part of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a mental health awareness campaign Kelvin has been working in in in in collaboration with the Dumfries and and and and Galloway Health and and and and and and Wellbeing Team and and and and and and NFU Scotland to promote awareness of mental health and and and and and isolation in in in in in in the rural and and and and and farming communities Finally Kelvin has been appointed to the the post of Nurse Consultant for Clinical Risk in in in in in in in Dumfries and and Galloway working across the the health and and social care partnership Ian Hall In March Ian an an an an an Advanced Nurse Practitioner based on on on the the non-doctor Orkney island of of Shapinsay published an an an an an article in in in in in in the the British Journal of of Community Nursing entitled “Implementing a a a a a a sustainable clinical supervision model for Isles nurses in in in in in Orkney” This was then followed by his his participation in in in in the the the working group to rewrite the the the clinical supervision policy for NHS Orkney which is is awaiting ratification Family Nurse Anne had not one but two royal encounters last year She attended the the Queen’s annual garden party at at at at the the Palace of of Holyroodhouse in in July as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a representative of of QNIS Later she was nominated by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to to be part of of of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a small group of of of nurses to to meet Prince William at at at at at the the national museum as part of of of the the the 70th Birthday Celebrations She also presented to the the the Family Nurse Nurse Partnership (FNP) National Conference about the the the the role of o Queen’s Nurses and the the the the parallels in in the the the the excellence profile with being a a a a a a a a Family Nurse Further to to this she spoke to to young people their families FNP teams key partners and Scottish Government representatives about QNIS as part part of of the the Year of of the the Young Person celebrations in October INSTITUTEND THE NURSING Lorna Dhami Practice Nurse Lorna has presented at local workshops on Transforming Nursing Roles talking about her ongoing project on on improving the uptake of cervical screening Michelle Duffy Anne Burns Hazel Hamilton Senior Charge Nurse Hazel has spoken regularly at various events throughout Dumfries and Galloway about her journey to becoming a a a Queen’s Nurse This has included to teams working in in in health and social care but also to school pupils at at an an open day at at the University of of West of of Scotland (UWS) She is continuing with her Queen’s Nurse project to inspire community nurses of the future by organising for UWS nursing students to work in in in a a a a a a local care home during placements As part of this she is is is currently undertaking the Scottish Improvement Skills Programme Advanced Practice Respiratory Nurse Michelle was one of the authors on on on on a a a a a a a a a new respiratory national education resource from Chest Heart and and Stroke Scotland Michelle who works for NHS Highland
