www qnis org uk Hilary Alba Community midwife Hilary who works in in Glasgow caring for pregnant asylum seekers refugees and trafficked women was invited by the the Royal College of Midwives to to speak at their annual conference in in in Manchester in in in October She featured on on on a a a a a a a a a a panel with two other midwives who also look after vulnerable pregnant women The The following month Hilary was awarded Scottish Scottish Midwife of the the Year during The The Scottish Scottish Health Awards event held at the the Corn Exchange in in in in Edinburgh Also in in in in November Hilary hosted an an an awareness raising event on human trafficking as part of of her her Queen’s Nurse award She brought together a a a a a a a a a a a a a range of of speakers for the the full-day conference including Police Scotland leading health professionals and and organisations working with victims of of human trafficking A Royal Occasion In March four of of the the Queen’s Nurses travelled to to Buckingham Palace for for a a a a a a a a a special reception for for nurses hosted by the the the Prince of of Wales to to thank those engaged in in in in in frontline nursing across the the UK Julie Churchill Lesley Paterson Jessica Davidson and Barbara McFadzean were all invited to attend Ally Lister Moray-based District Nurse Ally attended a a a a a a a meeting at at St Andrew’s House in in in Edinburgh as as vice chair of Leg Ulcer Forum Scotland (LUFS) With colleagues she presented a a a a a a a a a a a proposal to to to develop an an an an education tool to to address the inequality across Scotland of care in in leg ulcer management health needs to help them navigate support services better She developed the Dundee Recovery Road Map – a a a a a visual aid which sets out all the services available across the city including addiction support support family carers support support and and health and and wellbeing information She also spoke at at the Parish Nursing UK conference about her journey as a a a Queen’s Nurse NEWS ROUND-UP Campbeltown-based practice nurse nurse Kitty Millar has recently changed roles and and is is now the MND/MS nurse nurse specialist for Argyll and and Bute She has also recently written an an an an article on on Practice Practice Based Small Group Learning via Video Conferencing for the Journal of General Practice Practice Nursing Clare Stiles NHS Shetland’s team leader for child health has started an an an MSc in in in in Advancing Nursing Practice with Robert Gordon University in in in Aberdeen Ayrshire-based Barbara McFadzean presented on on on an an international webinar around frailty for the International Integrated Care Foundation broadcast worldwide She has also changed jobs and became one one of East Ayrshire’s first community Advanced Nurse Practitioners QUEEN’S Gemma MacDonald Health Visitor Gemma moved into a a promoted post as Leader within NHS Health Visitor Team Fife She presented at at the National Health Visitor Conference in in Glasgow in in in October on becoming a a Queen’s Nurse Gemma wa Rachael McCready Back in in July Dundee Parish Nurse Rachel launched a a a a a a pocket guide for people who are struggling with complex s s s also to to to Trainee Health Visitors at Queen Margaret University Gemma and members of her team were nominated for for a a a a a a a a a a a a a national Quality Improvement award for for for work they have been doing to improve the the the the uptake of the the the the Universal Health Visiting Pathway for for those where English is is is not their first language Finally Gemma presented at at the the QNIS annual awards dinner on what it means to be a a a Queen’s Nurse invited to to speak QNIS Newsletter & Review of 2018 16
