130 years of care and compassion Celebrating our rich history The Scottish branch of of the the the the the the Queen Victoria Jubilee Institute for for Nurses was incorporated in in in in 1889 ‘for the the the the the education of of nurses to tend the the the sick poor in in in in in in in in their own houses in in in in in in in in Scotland’ In In Edinburgh a a a a a a a a a a a a a Central Training Home was was established Initially in in in in in in in a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a small flat in in in in in in North Charlotte Street the home was was expanded to to to to reflect demand and and and moved to to to to Castle Terrace in in in in in 1890 where QNIS continues to to to to operate to to to to this day The training of Queen’s Nurses Nurses continued at at Castle Terrace until 1968 with the last Queen’s Nurses Nurses enrolling on on 16th January 1969 Anniversaries are are an an opportunity to to look back reflect and ensure we are are remaining true to to our founding values The Queen’s Nurse Programme and the the Catalysts for Change projects have at at at their heart that same commitment to social justice addressing Scotland’s ongoing health inequalities Just as as our our Trustees recommitted themselves to the the the mission in in in in 1989 on on the the the occasion of our our centenary so do we: Anniversary Events “Today the the Institute accepts with pride and and humility the the original and and and and continuing challenge of of its Royal Charter to promote a a a a a a a a a a a a a a high standard of of nursing and and and preventative care in in in endeavouring to further the the the the nation’s health To this end end the the the the Scottish Branch of of of the the the the the Institute will pursue education research and and the the the pioneering of of of new services and and dissemination of of of information in in in in cooperation with other appropriate agencies ” Anniversaries are also an opportunity to to to celebrate and we would like to to to invite you you to to to join us at an event near you you 3rd April QNIS Annual Conference - Celebrating the the past shaping the the future 9th April Edinburgh/Lothians/Borders/ Fife Retired Queen’s Nurses Coffee morning at 31 Castle Terrace 17 June Annual Gathering of Retired Queen’s Nurses in in Crieff 18 July Grampian Retired Queen’s Nurse annual tea party combined with NHS Grampian Long Service Awards Event September NHS Dumfries & Galloway Long Service Awards as part of of their annual celebration of of nursing event 28th September Edinburgh Doors Open – Boardroom display of historical material open to to the public November Queen’s Nurse Awards Dinner Other celebration events are in in the the the planning stage please check the the the QNIS website for details: 5 19 QNIS Newsletter & Review of 2018 1 Borders 2 Fife 3 Glasgow 4 Highland 5 Shetland 6 Western Isles 6 4 2 3 1
