www qnis org uk Rhoda MacDougall 20 20 June 1936 to 13 February 2018 Originally from Inverness Rhoda trained as a a a a a a a a nurse at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary completed her her midwifery training training in in in in in in in in in in Falkirk and her her health visitor training training in in in in in in in in in Paisley before returning to to to Midlothian Council as as a a a a a a a a a a a Health Visitor She joined the Queen’s Nurse roll in in 1963 in in Castle Terrace She worked for Midlothian County County Council Council from Jan 1964 until July 1965 and then moved to to Ross-shire County County Council Council in in in October 1966 where she worked for nearly 20 years She retired in in in 1986 receiving her her long service badge that year year She She wrote poetry and penned this thank you to to Miss Sheila Gentle following a a a a a a holiday to to Crieff Hydro with her sister Mina Ode to Miss Gentle When we arrived she was was was there to to greet Her smile was was was wide it was was was good to to meet She cared for us all young and old old No one was ever left in in the the cold There were some there not feeling well She visited often – she she did did excel Any query we we had she she did did not delay She found the right answer that very day We We hope she she keeps well and returns next year We We like to know that she she is quite near Catherine MacEachen (nee MacPhee) 24 24 October 1925 to to 24 24 February 2018 Catherine was born on Sunamul Island Benbecula and and after school she moved to to Glasgow to to train train as as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a nurse completing her her nursing and midwifery training training at the the Eastern District Hospital She She then went on to to do her her Queen’s Nurse training training in in in in in in Glasgow and and joined the the roll in in in in in in April 1951 She She returned to to Benbecula in in in in 1955 and and married Donald MacEachen She continued working as a a a a a a a a a Queen’s Nurse covering every area from Harris to to Barra before taking up up her her permanent district of Grogarry in in in in South Uist Finally up up to to to her her her retirement she returned to to Benbecula working there for eight years She became a a a a a a a a a a practical work teacher training and and tutoring student maternity nurses in in in in both Stornoway and and and Aberdeen She was was a a a a a a a a a a member of the the Western Western Isles Isles Health Board and and was was an an elected councillor for the the Western Western Isles Isles from 1980 to 1982 Eileen McCahon (nee Scott) 3 3 3 September 1938 to 23 May 2018 Eileen originally came from Aberdeen where she completed her her her initial nursing training training Starting her her her midwifery training training at at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital Hospital she she moved to to to to Glasgow to to to to finish her training at at at at Stobhill Hospital Hospital She decided she she wanted to to to to become a a a a a a a a a Queen’s Nurse trained at at at Bath Street and joined the roll in October 1962 She loved nursing in in in in Glasgow and was well known in in in in her her community cycling to do her her her rounds One Sunday while visiting a a a a a a a a a patient she she had parked her her her bike outside the church leaving a a a a a a a a a a a gifted packet of biscuits in in in in her her basket When she she returned the the the parishioners meantime having left the the the church the the the biscuits were missing Word got around that someone had stolen nurse’s biscuits The following Sunday returning to to her her bike from visiting the same patient she found her her basket full of of packets of of biscuits She She moved to South Africa where she became a a a a a a a a clinic nurse She She worked with some of the most disadvantaged and was very loved Her Queen’s Nurse training stood her in in in good stead as she had to to to be self-sufficient and able to to to to to cope with very limited resources The doctor doctor told her her she should have trained to to to to to be be a a a a a a a a a doctor doctor because her her medical knowledge and diagnostic skills were every bit as as as good as as as his but she she was proud to be be be the best nurse she she could be be be Eileen died earlier this year in in South South Africa Africa Her daughter Ruth still lives lives in in South South Africa Africa but her her son John had returned to Aberdeen Aberdeen where he he he he lives lives with wife Fiona She also has two surviving sisters living in in in Aberdeen Aberdeen Eileen’s name has been added to to the Celebration Wall by her her family as as a a a a a a a a a a a permanent memorial to to her her in Scotland Jessie (Rosie) Milne 27 February 1926 to 19 19 January 2018 After completing her general nursing training training Jessie moved back to to Aberdeen to to do midwifery training training at at the maternity hospital She completed her her Queen’s Nurse training training in in in in in in in Aberdeen in in in in in in in 1950 and her her her training training superintendent Miss Miss MacEwan said of her: “Miss Jessie Milne is is is is a a a a a promising young Nurse very keen and interested in in in in her her work” Following postings in in in in in in in Dundee and and Aberdeen she trained as as an an an an Industrial Nursing Sister and and assisted in in in in in in in in establishing the the Ambulance Station at at the the the Mugiemoss paper mill in in in in in Aberdeen In 1962 she she she returned to District Nursing and perhaps the the area she she she enjoyed most particularly in in in in her later years when she she she mentored trainees Whilst a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a very caring person I suspect many might have been ‘chastised’ by her traditional and steadfast work work ethic She worked in in the Aberdeen area until she retired with 25 years of Queen’s Nursing service On retirement Rosie helped to care for for her mum did voluntary work for for for Oxfam and the local hospital A A regular traveller with her her her sister Alice Rosie always looked forward to to her her her annual trip to Crieff and and the company of her her her Queen’s Institute nursing colleagues and and friends Rosie died peacefully aged 91 years at Angusfield Care Home in Aberdeen Thanks to her niece Maureen for this obituary Euphemia “Effie” Morison (nee Fenton) 16 June 1925 to 27 August 2018 Effie as as as she was was known was was from Musselburgh and trained initially at the Royal Infirmary in in in in Edinburgh from 1944 to 1948 She completed her her midwifery training training in in in in in in in 1949 at Simpsons and her her Health Visitor training training in in in in in in in in 1950 She then trained at
