QNIS spotlights community nursing and midwifery in the Scottish Parliament

We were very pleased to be able to hold an exhibition in the Scottish Parliament this week.

Two people stand smiling in front of a display for the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland. One person on the left wears a dark outfit with a light-blue lanyard, and the person on the right wears a dark blazer and glasses. Behind them is a blue banner with the organisation’s name and the text “Making a difference in communities across Scotland.” A stand with an information sign and additional display tables are visible in the background.

Sponsored by Tess White MSP, the exhibition, which ran from Tuesday until Thursday, gave us the chance to meet with MSPs and tell them about the work of QNIS. It also allowed us to raise awareness of the vital work that community nurses and midwives do across Scotland and the wide scope of the services they deliver.

We had some very thoughtful and interesting conversations, and were able to emphasise how important it is to ensure that community nurses and midwives can access professional and leadership development opportunities.

We were delighted to be visited by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, the Minister for Drugs and Alcohol Policy and Sport, the Minister for Social Care and Wellbeing, and the Minister for Public Health and Women's Health. We talked about the pivotal role of community nursing and midwifery in the prevention focused approach that has been set out by the Scottish Government and COSLA in the Population Health Framework, and in delivering health and social care close to, and in, people’s homes.
