An absorbing book about Maud and her struggle with dementia. Maud is convinced her friend Elizabeth is missing, and her determination to find her takes her on a bewildering journey. Her confusion and frustration is compelling – Maud flits between present day and vivid memories from her past and sometimes the two become indistinguishable. The affect that her illness has on her daughter and granddaughter is treated with a reality which can sometimes leave you feeling uncomfortable, but is beautifully written. The book reminds you that the dementia sufferer was once a person with a story to tell other than their illness.
