Green Party Manifesto – Health and Care Priorities

12th April 2016

Today, the Scottish Green Party released their manifesto for the 2016 Scottish Parliament Elections.  Some of their key priorities for health and care are listed below.  We will provide details on the Manifestos of the other mainstream Political Parties as they are issued.

  • Ensuring there is less paperwork for those in healthcare roles
  • More time for learning and career development of healthcare workers
  • Equitable provision of Primary Care
  • Develop an inclusive culture allowing older people to live healthy and independent lives
  • Allow local government to raise funds for social care
  • Opposition to the privatisation of the NHS
  • Fighting child poverty by creating a child-friendly society
  • Expanding the Healthy Start scheme to ensure parents have healthy pregnancies
  • Promoting healthy eating and active lives
  • Introducing a levy to discourage the promotion of unhealthy food and drink
  • Fighting for equal consideration of mental health alongside physical health
  • Supporting action on the ‘big killers’ of cancer, heart disease, stroke, respiratory disease and liver disease
  • Pushing for access to appropriate healthcare for LGBTI+
  • Improving health research
  • Pressing for advice and support on occupational health
